“ACTS” Prayer

“ACTS” Prayer

Sometimes when I talk to God, I can ask for so much I remind myself of a child.  I have found the ACTS model of prayer one I like to use.  I go through seasons where I use it more than others, but I keep coming back to it.

“ACTS” is an acronym for, “Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.”

Adoration is a way of starting by focusing on who God is and praising Him for that.  As we spend time with God, we begin to fulfill the commandment to love Him with all of our heart and soul.

Next, I move to clearing out things in my life that shouldn’t be so (confession).  I ask myself if there is anything in my life displeasing to God. (and of course, He is faithful and just to forgive me and cleanse me from any unrighteousness.)

After adoring and confessing, my heart is more ready to give thanks.  It is so good to give Thanksgiving to God.  He deserves our thanks.  Just like we teach children to say “thank you,” it is good for us to  give thanks to God for the blessings we can so easily take for granted.

Finally comes the supplication—or asking for the things needed in my life and the lives of others I care for.  This is where I pray for myself, my family, my church and world issues. (Sadly to say, I don’t make it to world issues nearly as often as I should.)

For some, a structured prayer time is helpful.  If that is you, give this a try.  If not, do what works for you in order to increase your relationship with  God.

 Blessings,

Thora
