Living in the Right Now

Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. –Psalm 25:4-5 (NLT)

Sometimes, while thinking of all I need to get done, I can miss what is happening in the “right now.”

It reminds me of taking pictures at programs my children were in.  While they were on stage, it seems all I did was look at my phone at a tiny picture view, and I actually missed the big picture of what the program looked like.

I can be driven by the horizon: the dreams, visions and hopes of upcoming days.  My desire is to live the life that God wants me to ultimately live; however, many times I miss the moments where God is actually attempting to grab my attention.

Jesus said, “if only you had eyes to see and ears to hear.”  Jesus is fully present and I think He is trying to call me into participation with Him and His Kingdom. God is looking for me to put my hope and trust in Him today, ALL day long, not just tomorrow or when I’m in need of Him. He’s challenging me to see all the moments of my life as being filled with meaning. Each moment is filled with the presence of God.  What is He saying to me?   Too often, truth be told, I’m too busy to notice.

As a result, I’m trying to start each day by praying and asking God to be with me and give me a clear understanding of each day. Of course, I’ll still plan and dream about the future, but I’m going to try to learn to live in the present moment.

Blessings,

Thora

  1. Every time I am recording the kids, this thought goes through my mind. When I don’t have a recording or a picture but I have the memory, I am so grateful but often wonder if I will remember it in the future… Thank you for sharing this!
