I recently began to reread one of my favorite books titled, “One Thousand Gifts, A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are” by Ann Voskamp. There are a few books that have meant so much in my life that I have reread them multiple times and this is one of them. I discovered a little phrase that I had skimmed over before and it spoke to me, “Life is not an emergency.” As I sat with this phrase, I began to pray, “Lord help me to see the gift of each moment of each day because I have led a hurried life.” Although prayer and God’s word have been a constant in my life, I find it a continuous struggle to live in the moment and be present. I know this phrase came at just the right time and season for me. I want to enjoy this time, breath in the smells of Christmas and winter’s crisp air, listen to the laughter of our grand babies, hold my 90-year-old mommy’s hand, hug my kids often and kiss my husband more. I want to remember “Life is not an emergency!” Today is a gift and I want to hold it with thanksgiving and joy.
From my heart to yours,
