What are You Chasing?

We are all chasing something, what are you chasing?

Some choose to chase after wisdom, courage and honor. Some chase after ministry or a sense of purpose, duty and service. These are all noble.

There are those who choose to chase after fame, fortune and glamour; they want to bring beauty into the world and they want to be known.

Yet others chase after family, friendship, community and love; they want connection.

None of these things are wrong and they can bring pleasure, joy and goodness. So then why did Solomon in all his glory, privilege, wealth and family say this:

“So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless, like chasing the wind.”

Ecclesiastes 2:17

Here is the key – if anything or anyone becomes the object we chase instead of God, there will come a time when the things we seek and want will leave us disappointed.  The things we love, the people we love and the purposes we love were never meant to fill the deepest longings of our soul and spirit like God alone!

Jesus wants us to chase hard after Him! It is a good question to ask ourselves from time to time, “What am I chasing?” It helps us to pause and readjust and not just chase after the wind!
