An Easter Decision

For many people Easter Sunday is all about the pastel bunny rabbit and cute yellow baby chicks, the delicious chocolate treats and jelly beans in a basket, floral dresses and adorable children dressed up looking for brightly colored eggs. But as a Christian Easter is the most important celebration of our faith because it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ’s from the dead! Jesus was crucified on a cross Friday for the sin of the world―buried in the tomb—and three days later on Sunday up from the grave Jesus rose triumphant over sin and death. This is a central belief of the Christian faith!

Easter Sunday holds a special place in my heart because on April 14th, 1974 I made a public commitment of my faith but that is not the whole story! I went to a concert in  October of 1973 at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa; this is when I embraced the truth of Jesus but was scared to death to walk down to the altar in front of thousands of people. In the following months I felt like something was missing, so I made the decision to attend church with a friend on Easter Sunday. When the message was over and the altar call was made I walked to the front of the church and publicly said I want to follow Jesus! This has been the most defining and monumental decision of my life.

Maybe you have been searching everywhere, with everyone and doing everything to find freedom and spiritual awareness but you’ve passed by the power of the cross and resurrection or rejected it because of imperfect people and painful circumstances.  Maybe you have walked away from belief in Jesus because of situations, people and expectations. Life and people are complicated but the Gospel is simple. God loves you! Perhaps today you will stop and look at or look again at the truth that God so loved you He sent his son Jesus who died for our sin and rose from the dead so that we can have eternal life and a life of freedom and hope.  The Gospel with all its simplicity is the most profound revelation to humankind.

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.” John 3:16
