Sometimes we get so caught up in the situations right in front of us that we miss the bigger picture.
We are running late and miss the homeless man on the corner. We have an abundance of laundry and chores list a mile so we miss the hurricane hitting on the other side of the country. We are so focused on the election that we miss the opportunity to love and serve our neighbors in our own community. We work all week and only have the weekend for getting things done so we pack the weekend so full but missing the serving opportunity in our own church. We need to run in and out of the store for one item so we try and pull into the spot up front but take that close parking spot for the elderly man.
These are real situations that God has pointed out to me in the last week. Whether they were personal experiences or friend’s experiences, they each are real scenarios that God has used to humble me this week.God has shown me that even the smallest act of kindness doesn’t go wasted.
Imagine if we took the time to slow down and see what the Lord was doing. We could be the kindness someone needed today. We could provide the only meal a person has today. We could be the light in the darkness someone needs to see. Let’s take a step back and allow God to guide our steps. Let’s follow Jesus’s example and “do what the Father is doing (John 5:19)”.
Lord, help me to be your hands and feet. Open my eyes to those situations around me that you are calling me to participate in. Help me to not get so caught up in the things that cause me to stumble but fully surrender to the things that matter most to your kingdom. Thank you Lord for opening up my eyes to see those you love. Thy will be done, Lord. In your name, Amen.
Great thoughts
Great reminder – especially in this busy season and chaotic year!
That is a great message.
My morning reading was Matthew 25:31-46 which talks about helping others just as if we are helping Jesus Himself. Thanks Heather for this great reminder to slow down, look and listen.
