I’m in a Bad Mood!

I’m in a Bad mood.

Yes, I admit it.  I can get in a bad mood way too often.

I actually googled “I’m in a bad mood.”   Guess what I found…

One entry said to use a cartoon voice to change your mood.  I don’t know about you, but when I am in a bad mood, I don’t feel like using a silly voice.

I did read this, “The best way to change how you feel is to change how you think about  what’s bothering you. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, identify what you learned and what you can do with that knowledge to make your next moments better.”

Well… of course, this is Biblical.  What we think about, we eventually feel, and what we feel we eventually act upon.

2 Corinthians 10:5

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

Mark 7:21

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

Sometimes when you’re in a bad mood, it’s tempting to go over and over a story in your head that justifies your bad mood, and then retell it over and over like a picture book you’ve heard a million times. And then he said this…And then I did this…And then I messed up…

It takes a lot of work to take thoughts captive.  I actually like easy.  But “easy” doesn’t help.

We have to choose to close the (“Bad Mood”) book.  Visualize it if necessary.  Take a new book off the shelf. Then start telling yourself a different story—one where you’re not a victim, one where you’re not powerless, one where you’re accepting what happened and moving on so you don’t lose anymore time to the bad mood book.   Focus on what God says.  Go over memory verses on thoughts.

I am going to set my mind on something positive now.

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

May we focus on good things!

Blessings,

  1. I think I’ll use the book visualization on my bed table for bad thoughts that disturb my sleep!
    Thanks

  2. Sometimes I put a funny voice on when I’m getting upset with the kids- it changes the whole mood.

  3. “If you tend roses, you will not grow thistles. Two things cannot occupy the same space.” A quote from The Secret Garden. Great word, Thora!
