Turning the calendar to a new year can bring with it a plethora of mixed emotions. Many wrestle with those post-holiday letdown blues while others are happy the season is finally over and life can return to a near normal.
I tend to fall somewhere in the middle of those warring emotions. I appreciate the promise of new beginnings each year. While nearly half of all Americans make some sort of resolution each year, I typically shy away from them; a direct result of too many failed attempts to lose those 20 pounds that continually haunt me. I do, however, believe in setting goals each year. I’m particularly excited about my goals this year because God has presented me with a unique challenge quite unlike anything in past years.
This year … God wants me to get fat!
Before any of you jump on my bandwagon at what sounds like a really great idea — you should know God’s instructions to me haven’t been about eating burritos, burgers and Butterfingers to beef up my body. No – my Lord is challenging me to chew on the Word of God this year and fill my soul to overflowing with meaty “go-to” Scriptures until I can say them in my sleep and snack when my soul is salivating for sustenance that only my Savior can satisfy.
God has asked three things of me this year.
• Seek Me more
• Trust Me more
• Praise Me more
God wants to make me fat with ‘three squares a day’ that will include an appetizer of Matthew 6:33, But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well; followed by an entrée of Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight. A generous helping of Psalm 63:4-5 lends its own unique blend of flavor that gratifies even my picky palate. I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.
If I were to make a resolution this year I resolve to take a bite out of Matthew 5:6, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. I want to let the juices of Romans 15:13 fill me so full it’s running down my chin and I am fatter than a tick on a barnyard dog. I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
My hunger for you Lord, is insatiable. I don’t want to fail at yet another resolution. Please help me to be fat in You this year!
Blessings in Christ,
Kathy K.
I never knew it could feel so good to be fat.
🙂
Amen Sister!
Thank you!
Those selections are worthy of being on any five-star menu.
