Craving Connection

Connections

I’m reading a book called, Anatomy of the Soul, which asserts the thing people crave the most is connection.  Our emotions are the means by which we experience and connect with God, others and ourselves.

Much like a Science Fiction novel, this psychiatrist says the brain responds in an interdependent way and that there is no such thing as a true individual.  It is not possible for us NOT to influence others or NOT to be influenced by others.

Genesis 2:8 told us, “It is not good for the man to be alone…”

This makes sense because even God exists in community: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This author tells that…real transformation requires a collaborative interaction where one person empathically listens to the other so the other person “feels felt.”

As we connect with God and others in a healthy way, God changes our stories from poorer to richer, from sadder to more joyful, from shameful to confident and free.

I think of Hagar who said, “You are the God who sees me…I have now seen the One who sees me.” In the Genesis 16:13 exchange, God meets Hagar when she is in a desperate place and she is “known.”  We all long to be seen and known by God.  He longs to know and be known by us!

We do not want to just know about a God, but to KNOW God.

Ask God how you may know Him better and also better connect with others.

Blessings,

Thora

  1. Amen! We need people, and we have to make room for developing those connections. It seems like it’s usually difficult, but, man, is it worth it!
