Watch with glittering eyes

“… Watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. …” –Roald Dahl

When I was 23 and living in Brooklyn- and didn’t have any children- I worked as a customer service representative at an international clothier.  In the mornings I would leave the house early to get my coffee and walk through Prospect Park on my way to work.

One morning, as I was walking, I noticed how insatiably green everything seemed to be and I suddenly felt very overwhelmed with it’s beauty.  Flooded with emotions- I was in awe.

The scene was like a painting: the rich lush grass, the full blooming bushes, the tall majestic trees, the vibrant fragrant flowers; each and every leaf.  I wished in that moment I could somehow consume my surroundings- bottle the moment.

As the cool breeze gently brushed my cheek and the trees swayed softly I closed my eyes and breathed in the air.

For all of the artists and designers that I have had the great pleasure of observing, knowing or working with- God is by far the most imaginative, detail oriented, and precise “hand-crafter” I have ever seen.

A lover, a fighter, a protector and an Artist- seriously- it doesn’t get much better than that.

One of my favorite facets of God is his imaginative side.  I love that he dreams.  I wonder if his creating is an outlet for him?  In his perfection his overflow of love and creativity simply must pour out. And so he picks up his paintbrush and lets his emotion and thoughts and beauty spill out into our environment.

Who is like our God?
