Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. –1 John 4:8-10
A group of 4-to-8 year-olds were asked the question, “What does love mean?” As often happens with children, the answers can offer wisdom. Bobby — age 7 — said this, “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”
God’s love expresses itself to us in innumerable and immeasurable ways. He is love- the only true and pure essence of it. Sometimes in my quiet times, I so feel the love of God – sometimes when it is quiet, and other times with worship music on. It is fantastic.
Of course, God most clearly expressed His love when He sent His Son to be our Saviour and Redeemer.
This Christmas, take time to love as God loves you: sacrificially, humbly, faithfully and joyfully. Take time not only to love others, but to feel His love.
And, as 7-year-old Bobby said, as you gather with your family and or friends this holiday, take time to push aside the hustle and bustle of the season to listen closely. Love is all around you.
Blessings,
Thora
