Living in the Light

I love the Christmas season. Especially the lights and decorations. When night falls, the lights come on and shine brightly for all too see. People get very creative with their decorations too. Giant, inflatable snowmen, candy canes, smiling Santa Clause figures and reindeer all draped in lights.

I appreciate the festiveness and I enjoy some of the commercialism of Christmas. It’s meant to be fun, and all the glitter and bright lights serve as greater reminder of its true meaning. Simply put, Jesus is the light in this world and his light lives in those who believe in him and have accepted him as their savior.

John 8:12 says, When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Following the light of the world means you can see where you’re headed, even when life is rough and filled with confusion.  As a follower of Jesus, you’re headed down the right path, because he’s leading you and is with you even in the dark times. He will light the way and help you see the next step.

Enjoy the festiveness of this Christmas season, and with each flashing light, be reminded of why Jesus came into the world and celebrate!

I’ll end with the beginning, as written in John 1:1-5, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Merry CHRISTmas!
