Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Women are often perceived to be more risk averse. We error on the side of caution, preferring comfort and safety over the discomfort of uncertainty. The longing for security is a strong emotion that can hold us back from our life’s true calling and stunt our spiritual growth.

We stay in abusive relationships because it’s better than risking being alone. We choose a job we hate because it’s more stable than our dream job or the ministry where we feel led to serve. We don’t grow spiritually out of fear that God might really use us, turning our entire world upside down. Instead of trusting God, we’d rather stay in a bad place than to venture into the unknown.

It’s time to break the monotony and step out of our comfort zone. It’s time to trust God and exercise our faith. If we are bold and courageous, we can take one obedient step forward and build up our risk tolerance. Faith means taking risks and risk takes trust. Taking risks is what being a Christian is about!

Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Remember, when it comes to risk-taking, we’re not alone. We are in partnership with God and we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. If we trust God and obey his commands, we can step out in faith knowing in advance that the reward is in the risk.

Since God is the only one who knows the future, it’s wise to trust him. Our plans for our lives may change, but God’s plan for us never changes. Proverbs 16:9 says “The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”

You may not be ready for that one big leap of faith, so start with something small. Do something you know God wants you to do, even if you’re scared. You were blessed with unique gifts, talents and qualities. Use them and remember, Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Be blessed today and every day.
