To Tell you My Story is to Tell of Him…

Several weeks ago, Pastor Brian gave a very powerful lesson on telling our story. He told the story of the demon possessed man of Gennesaret. Mark 5 and 6. He focused on the bravery of Jesus and His purpose to show that the Kingdom is for everyone. Jew and Gentiles. The Grace filled and the morally corrupt. Jesus sees the bigger picture.  He reminds us of that in this famous Biblical passage.  What really resonated with me in this lesson is that “God’s dream for the greatness of His people is now being fulfilled in My little community.” That would include my family, friends, neighbors, and my relationships at the high school I teach at. I was challenged to seek out the other side, not just my Christian side. And to be honest, sometimes that is just scary.  I am like those disciples on the boat as they journey to Gennesaret: scared, unwilling, and unable to see the bigger picture, or the bigger mission. Brian faithfully reminded us that there are people in our world that only we can reach. How do we reach them? With our story.  We have a story with Jesus that no one else can tell. My friend, I ask you… What is your story? Several years ago, our small group actually gave each member a chance to tell her story with Jesus. It was such a blessing to not only write and share my story with Jesus but to be blessed through hearing the story of the girls I had grown to love in my own little church community. As  small group leader now, I am thinking of bringing this exercise back. It is such a great way to first, identify what your story with Jesus is, and secondly, to practice sharing it in a safe group. Maybe your small group could do this very activity. I promise you will be blessed. If you are not part of a small group, I encourage you to find a good one. They are true blessings.  But in the mean time, write down your story with Jesus. Once you are finished, pray over it and thank God for this story… all of it.  Ask how might God use it for someone in the communities God has placed you in. On my way to work today, I heard one of my favorite songs by Big Daddy Weave, “This is My Story This is My Song”. I really felt that this post is what God wanted some of you to hear today, so I wrote it. I will just leave with you a few lyrics from this powerful song… “If I told you my story, You would hear victory over the enemy, If I told you my story you would hear freedom that was won for me, If I told you my story, you would hear life overcome the grave….. of grace that is greater than all my sin… of when justice was served and when mercy wins… of the kindness of Jesus that draws me in. To tell you my story is to tell of him.
