How many times have you said or done something that you promised yourself that you wouldn’t say or do? You made a commitment and resolved to do one thing, but ended up doing something else entirely.
Depending on the circumstance, maybe you’ve been down this road more than once or twice, or perhaps you’ve been battling the same situation over and over again. As your frustration level continues to rise, your will power has failed and you’ve become mentally, emotionally and physically drained trying to take care of yourself instead of casting your cares upon the Lord.
As Christians, we are constantly at war with our old natures. The book of James talks about how our unfulfilled desires and sinful natures cause strife amongst believers, “Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” (James 4:1-2).
When you feel weak and hopeless, and are confronted with shame and condemnation because you feel you can’t break free from bondage, remember what Paul said in Romans 7:24-25…
“Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.”
The good news is that Jesus came to set us free. No matter what the circumstances are, we can go boldly to the throne and find our help and comfort in Him. When those feelings of frustration come, remember it’s because you’re trying to do something that only God can do. Trust Jesus with your needs and cast your cares upon Him, and as it says in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
It is truly emotionally frustrating when I am trying to do things that only God can do!
Thank you for shedding light and encouragement on this frustrating subject.
I ask my granddaughter when she’s struggling with something – “Gammie help?” Most times she let’s me and other times she may continue the struggle – this makes me picture Jesus with us! Thanks Trish =)
