On the 21st of this month, my baby Chelsea will turn one year old. As her first birthday approaches, I can’t help but remember the days surrounding her birth. My water broke at 5 a.m. on April 19th and it was quite a surprise because I was only in my 34th week of pregnancy.
I am so thankful for God being with us every step of the way and all the blessings that came with it. Here are some of the highlights: There were people from five different local churches praying for us, including many family and friends. Two of my very first nurses were Christians and told me they would be praying for me. Over the next two days, I was not anxious at all, which can only be explained by the peace God provides. Friends from church and a Bible study I go to came to visit my husband and me. Chelsea’s delivery was very easy on me and she was healthy. She would spend 17 days in the NICU with no medical problems…she just needed to grow and learn how to eat on her own without a feeding tube. After she was born, our small group leader and a pastor from church visited us and prayed over her.
Our son, who had never spent a night away from us, would be with my sister and her family for four days. He came to visit me at the hospital during that time, but had no problem being away from us, which was a relief to me. The hospital staff was so amazing that I didn’t fear leaving our baby at the hospital once we went home because the care was excellent. And to top it all off, our insurance covered everything except for $150 admission fee for Chelsea to be in the NICU. Also, we were blessed with great friends and family who helped us so much in the days before and after Chelsea came home from the hospital.
I remember the verses that came to mind when I marveled at how much God had done for us through that time. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21
God certainly answered my prayers…but He did much more than I had even thought to ask for. This is just one of many times in my life God showered his favor and love on me, for which I will always be grateful.
