Embrace Monotony
Embracing Monotony was something Penny Meyer spoke about at the recent Women’s Conferece here at VCNP. So often, she said, life is full of the mundane. She shared about David and the years in obscurity spent taking care of the sheep…a seemingly lowly job. She encouraged us to embrace the “dailyness” of life—the things that seem so monotonous. This hit such a true chord with me.
God grows us so much in the times that seems like monotony. Even though it doesn’t seem like it much at the time, we can often look back years later and see what God was doing in us during what seemed like a time of life lacking luster.
Psalm 36 talks of, “both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.” It is in the times of monotony where we have an opportunity to press into God, to hide in His wings. It is in those times we develop our intimacy with Him which we will so desperately need later when things either get more exciting or crazier, whichever life brings.
I so want to grow in learning to listen to God—even when life seems monotonous. John 8:47 says, “He who belongs to God hears what God says.” Don’t you love that.
When it gets crazy busy, I can think…Oh, for the days of monotony when we actually had time to press into God.
Embrace Monotony!

Thora
