My son came home with his preschool calendar at the beginning of the new month and the fun fact for the month said, “The tongue is the strongest muscle in the body!” His 4 year old eyes stared up at me with amazement when I read it to him. “But it’s so small,” he said. We talked about how even small things can make big impacts. It made me think deeper.
“The tongue is the strongest muscle in the body…” absolutely it is. Not only with physical strength, but the tongue truly can move things spiritually, in relationships, with our character, etc. There’s a reason God’s Word goes back to controlling the tongue repeatedly.
The tongue may be the strongest muscle in the body, but the Holy Spirit is stronger and we have His power in us to help give us control over this. We have the ability to use the strongest muscle in ways that glorify Him or to turn others away from him. How will you exercise this muscle?
Use this muscle to demonstrate His goodness and love. Telling others about Christ can quite literally bring them into eternity with us. Don’t hide the strongest muscle in your body. Don’t be shy about it. Pray for discernment as your words leave your mouth and for Him to display His works in you with it. You may even surprise yourself as words leave your mouth with His guidance.
Hey Alex,
Thank you for sharing this! What an excellent illustration of His will for our lives and reminder of the power that we wield, and to use it wisely ❤️
“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place, and suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit]. And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (different languages), as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out [clearly and appropriately].”
