Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year. The smell of cinnamon, hot apple cider, baking and decorating. I love the colors of fall, the cooler days and the changing of the leaves. Fall is all about change! However in real life change can be frightening. Some of us would be more comfortable if nothing ever changed, we like what we can depend on. Some of us love change and actually thrive on the challenge and the excitement change brings. No matter if you hate it or love it, we all can be sure life is all about change and fall reminds of of that truth.
Although change brings new beginnings, friendships and experiences; change can also bring loss and disappointments; but in all change God brings about new opportunities for us to grow deeper in God, have new perspectives on life, learn more about ourselves and those around us.
Jesus speaking metaphorically about God’s work in our lives in John 12:24 says, “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone (only a seed) but if it dies (changes) it bears much fruit.” I am sure we can all look back and say that the times we have grown the most have been during times of change.
Change is inevitable and yet seldom do we take the time to prepare for it. Yes prepare for change! I encourage you during this beautiful time of year to take a lesson from nature and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you about change by doing the following.
- Take time to reflect, to rest and to be thankful.
- Don’t be afraid to dream, challenge yourself and grow even if it involves change.
- Take time to go deeper with God.
- Take time in this season to discover something new about yourself and embrace the changes that are ahead.
