Derailing Defenses

When all of my defenses are gone, what is left of me? What fears and flaws will I have to face once the distractions are gone and the silence sets in? If these are thoughts that have you stuck in old chains, I see you, sister. Sometimes it is way easier to bury hurts and feelings of failure by replacing them with numbing factors that temporarily distract us from feeling less than, instead of coming out into the light and facing the music. Let’s be real, we all like what growth produces, but we aren’t always willing to endure the growing pains that it takes to renew our minds and get back in the path of God’s perfect and intricate will for our lives.

These distractions that keep us from facing the little girl in us and her lingering issues, looks different for everyone. For me, binging my favorite TV shows while simultaneously binging food is my way to escape. When the lonliness of being a stay at home mom sets in, I tend to look for my worth in social media as a last resort for being gratified from the safety of my own home where I don’t have to be in the world with kids that frankly sometimes I can’t control. Whew. I know that’s a mouthful and that both your distraction method and the issues lurking behind them are different from mine, but what I truly believe is the same across the board is that Jesus died for you to live a life of FREEDOM and for me too.

If you are feeling stuck in old cycles or if you are living a life that is not marked by true and undeniable freedom then it is time to rip off bandaids, remove distractions, and take the Holy Spirit’s hand as He takes residence in your heart and begins to break chains and claim victory in places that were previously marked with defeat. He will begin to take the lies you have come to believe and replace them with life-giving truth.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh (aka netflix 😉 ; rather, serve one another humbly in love. -Galations 5:13

The only way to fully grasp this freedom is to BE STILL by disarming your defenses and let God lead you in a love dance towards redemption and renewal.

Mollie
