Christmas is my favorite holiday. I’m one of “those” people. You know…the ones who start listening to Christmas music in October. That’s me. I’m a Christmas nerd and I wear my Christmas nerdiness loudly and proudly; ugly sweater and all!
The celebratory atmosphere is what excites me the most. If you overlook all the hustle and bustle, the endless lists of things to do and commitments all around, there’s an underlying current of joy and expectation.
I’m talking about real joy; not just happiness from all the fun festivities. Happiness is only a temporary by-product of our circumstances, as long as things are going good. Joy, however, is a gift from God that enables us to have peace and hope even when everything seems to be crashing down around us.
How do we maintain our joy when we we’re confronted with regret, past failures, fear, discontent and our own sinful natures?
Well, as a believer if you’re running low on the joy meter, remember these three things.
God loves you. (Romans 5:8)
God sent His only son to die for you. (John 3:16)
God is with you always. (John 14:18-28)
I pray the Holy Spirit comforts you, and that the Fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control is multiplied in you and pours out through you.
Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas!
Now get nerdy and rock out to God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen with me!
God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan’s pow’r
When we were gone astray
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
God bless you today and always.
