Fighting My Battles

Last week, I heard a great new song by The Afters called “Battles.”  Some of the lyrics say this “This current is trying wreck me like castles of sand castles of sand. I feel like an enemy army is marching on me but I’m making a stand. You surround me on every side your love is my armor I fear no evil. Darkness runs from your light so I won’t be afraid I won’t be afraid. You’re going before me and oceans are parting you’ll fight my battles. When my feet are failing and my heart is shaking you’ll fight my battles. Fight my battles fight my battles fight my battles.” I thought that was the perfect song for the Christian life.  Whether it be daily, weekly, or yearly, we face different types of battles.  Battles of the mind, spirit, and body.  Many times we grow weary as we try to fight these on our own strength.  That is what is so amazing about what Christ did for us on the cross.  Not only did he defeat death our biggest battle, but he has given us power in His name to win the battles in this life.  I know many of you are going through some battle this week.  I know you are probably tired, and may even feel that you will never overcome.  But it is on my heart to tell you that you can overcome in Jesus’ name. That is my prayer for you this day.  Deuteronomy 31:8 says, ‘the Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you or forsake you, so do not be afraid.’ Just like David stood before Goliath, with the power of God on his side, we can stand up to anything that comes against us. I know this song will be a weapon for my faith – a reminder of God’s power in the midst of my struggles. The words of this song have become something that I now declare over every struggle that comes my way – ‘I will not be afraid, because God is already fighting my battles!’” I pray that you listen to this song, and let God speak to you in worship.

Be Blessed,

  1. This brought me to tears it is exactly what I needed right now in this very moment. God Bless You and Praise God. I need Him.

  2. Saw YouTube “Battles” & other video “the heart of the song” explaining superhero costume in the video. A friend of writer’s wife has stage 4 cancer. For her treatments the family goes & dresses in costumes with capes trusting God (song about not fearing).
