Resting in God

This week marks the end of another school year for me. It is always bitter sweet to say goodbye to my students but to look forward to the season of rest that I need.  I love that God has blessed me with a job that allows me the chance to rest, to recharge, and to begin anew in the fall.  God also calls us to rest in him. In Matthew 11:28-29   Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” So many times I find myself laboring all on my own. Any time a crisis comes, I start working hard to figure out a solution.  Many times this involves research, and turning the situation over and over inside my head.  What this always leads to is weariness. Jesus wants me to come to Him first, and he says that He will give me rest.  That is a promise. He wants us to yoke our lives with him. Which simply means he wants us to be attached to him. As we attach ourselves to Him through his word, and prayer, then He helps lift our burdens.  He shares with us in carrying our problems, and we can have peace.  This verse is so powerful because it gives us a mental picture for God’s plan for our lives. We were never meant to live without God. We can overcome every situation when we are attached to God. Sometimes we feel as if we can hold on no longer. But through Christ we can cling to Him hour by hour if needed. The Holy Spirit lives in us, and He can give us supernatural strength to do so. God has an eternal grip on our hands. Though our strength to keep holding on may run out, God’s strength never fails. “ So do not fear, for I –your God—am with you. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10.  It is my prayer that you find rest in God for your journey.

Be Blessed,
