A Message “Frozen” In Time

There’s nothing more irritating than having a really annoying song stuck in your head hour after hour, day after day. A few weeks ago I had a song from the movie Frozen stuck in my head – and it didn’t just stick in my brain for a few hours but for two solid weeks!

No matter how many other songs I played on my phone, iPod or car radio, I couldn’t make Love is an Open Door go away. It was there when I awoke in the middle of the night reminding me that I found my place and it’s nothing like I’ve ever known before …

Two weeks of singing non-stop about our mental synchronization had me thinking I was going crazy. This song simply would not be erased from my subconscious mind or even my unconscious mind.

Finally after two weeks of jinxing myself every time I felt like finishing a sandwich, I decided to take a few minutes to pray — which went something like, “Seriously God! Make it stop! Are you trying to tell me something with this freaking song!”

Within in a matter of minutes my mind was flooded with Scriptures answering my belligerent prayer. God very gently reminded me that He is love (1 John 4:8, 16) and that loving Him with all my heart, mind, soul and strength is the most important thing we are supposed to do in life (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 23:37). Second after that is to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:30).

God is our open door to love; to loving Him; to loving ourselves and to loving each other. This is after all, why God created us!

Perhaps my mind’s refusal to let go of the repeated lyrics and tune from this popular Disney movie was simply God’s way of letting me know I needed a little refresher course of what my main purpose in this life truly is.

In our fast-paced, crazy, chaotic lives God may occasionally need to remind us that life isn’t just about carpools, mortgage payments, scheduling the kids’ dental appointments or a host of other trivial problems that crowd in and steal our focus from Christ.

It’s likely Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the writers of the song just wanted a hit tune that would one day wind up in the hallowed halls of Disney classics. Little did they know that their catchy little ditty would remind believers like me (please don’t sue me), that we can find God through whatever door He chooses to open.

Do you want to hear something crazy? After meditating on the love Scriptures, the song finally faded from my mind. Do you want to hear something crazier? I think the best explanation for why we have any kind of mental synchronization with the Savior is because the Bible assures us that we have the mind Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16) which allows us to share with others that Christ is always our open door to love.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 (NLT)

Blessings in Christ,

I am a wife, mother, grandmother and published author of three books. My true passion is to share the Gospel through the written word. I may not be a Pulitzer Prize winning author, but God tells us to be faithful with "little things," ... so at my Lord's pleasure ... I use my "little writing gift" to write for Him.

  1. Love this Kathy! I am so glad you found the answer to your prayer through your surrender to our wonderful and loving God! We can and do see God everyone and love is the eyes through which we see him. God is our open door! Praise God! Its funny though – since I have not seen this movie, when I first started reading your post, I was thinking of the only Frozen song I know which is “Let it Go” – know that would have been terribly ironic if not humorous, if that was the song stuck! 🙂 She says with much love and a smile.

The song I have stuck in my head is a secular song which I wont mention but really serves for all of us – particularly women, to remind our small self (ego) that we should not focus on size, shape, nor external beauty. I know God has repeatedly reminded me of this low these 5 decades. My hope and prayer is that all woman everywhere would be released from the Barbie doll curse that has been placed over them.

As per your norm, your blog post here, made me think. Today – it is about seeking a higher level of consciousness about what God is doing each moment and where he is present – certainly in the eyes of each other.

    Blessings

  2. Thanks all for kind remarks, Ladies! Christina — I think the “Let it Go” song is also a great reminder for us to let go of those things that try to steal our peace. I’m a firm believer that God can and will speak to us through any kind of music or outlet. When God wants to get our attention He can pretty much speak through just about anything — if we are willing to listen!
