I’m reading a book called, Anatomy of the Soul, which asserts that the thing people crave most in life is connection. We are created for connection with God and other people.
Much like a Science Fiction novel, this psychiatrist says the brain responds in an interdependent way and that there is no such thing as a true individual. It is not possible for us NOT to influence others or NOT to be influenced by others.
Our emotions are the means by which we experience and connect with God, others and ourselves. (Sometimes this is good and sometimes our emotions can be a challenge.)
Genesis 2:8 tells us, “It is not good for man to be alone…”
This makes sense because even God exists in community: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
This author, Curt Thompson, explains…real transformation requires a collaborative interaction where one person empathically listens to the other so the other person “feels felt.”
As we connect with God and others in a healthy way, God changes our stories from poorer to richer, from sadder to more joyful, from shameful to confident and free.
I think of Hagar who said, “You are the God who sees me…I have now seen the One who sees me.” In the Genesis 16:13 exchange, God meets Hagar when she is in a desperate place and she is “known.” We all long to be seen and known by God. He longs to know and be known by us!
We do not want to just know about a God, but to KNOW God.
Ask God how you may know Him better and also better connect with others.
Blessings,
Thora
