Sergeant Mom

Sometimes I feel like such a terrible mom!

It’s a daily battle to pick and choose what is most important to teach a two year old and a 10 month old.  I find most days I am so exhausted at the end of the day that all I can do is put the kids to sleep and pass out.  The discipline and teaching is constant- I feel like a drill sergeant sometimes.

Often I wonder to myself… why am I so tired? I don’t work in an office, I don’t exercise much, sometimes I just stay at home for the day, and still I have to drag myself into bed at night.

Right, I forgot- my “job” is not a 9 to 5’er.  My job is 24/7- ask my 10 month old, he’s still waking up every 2 to 4 hours at night!  There are moments during the day when I am YELLING at God for help.

My kids are the joy in my life, yet there is still struggle, frustration and exhaustion to deal with.

Thankfully, I believe in a merciful God.  I believe I am looked upon tenderly with understanding, non-judgmental eyes.  God sees my specific situation.  I am gently led through this mysterious wonder-world called parenting.

Isaiah 40:11 (KJV)  11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

Many times I’ve thought about the above scripture.  My mother received comfort from it, and when I started having children and sharing my struggles with her she reminded me of it.

He ‘gently lead(s) those that are with young’- boy- am I glad, cause (don’t tell my husband) I have no idea what I’m doing!  Everyday is a new adventure.  Seriously.

  1. I’ve half-joked for years that often as a parent I often feel like a waitress — a really bad waitress! Ha! What a precious gift, though, these amazing little creatures are – and the delight -amazing incredible delight – they bring to our lives. I love when God gives new insights and wisdom with tools that help the “waitressing” work out much better. And then there’s the forgiveness of the children (not to mention God!) when we do blow it – well, I’m just inspired by their capacity to forgive so beautifully. They are incredible.

  3. Thanks for this blog…I can certainly relate. I will put that verse up where I will see it every day for encouragement!
