Disappointment… Oh the pain of being let down by people, situations and ourselves. We have all experienced the agony of disappointment and I believe we would unanimously agree we don’t like it one bit!! Disappointment is a fact of life and will continue to happen to us until the day we close are eyes and open them in the presence of the Lord for eternity. It would be wise to take the advice of young Wesley, the dashing hero in the movie The Princess Bride; (A Fernandez Family favorite), “Get used to disappointment.”
So if disappointment is here to stay, how do we deal with it? How do we deal with the pain and regret, the anger and frustration of disappointment?
Recently I was faced with a moment of disappointment that cut me to the core. My heart was broken and immediately I felt faith being suck out of me by the pain. Have you noticed disappointment robs us of joy, peace, faith, love? But thank God for my faithful friend Ana Stine who reminded me to trust in God’s promises, His faithfulness and the power of prayer rather than what I saw that day or what my heart may fear.
Ladies, our confidence is not based on what disappoint shows us rather as Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”.
Yes, I was rattled but I was able to stop and remember God is faithful to accomplish what he has promised. I can trust him with the prayers, hopes and dreams I place within his hands.
If I allow God to work through my disappointment, God will work all things together for good because I love him. (Romans 8:28) He knows the depth of my cries and wants what is best for me and the ones I love. In addition, God will work within me and make me into the woman of God He has created me to be. The pain of disappointment will produce in me the fruit of rightness and the strength of character.
Disappointment is not easy nor is it fun, but it is going to happen. Allow God to work through those times of disappointment by:
- Remember to hold onto and trust in the promises of God.
- Remember to place your dreams and hopes in God’s capable and faithful hands.
- Remember God is making you into the woman He has created you to be.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Great blog, DaNetta! Disappointment is on my heart and mind today as I minister to a friend who just had a huge disappointment so you captured my thoughts and reiterated the promises of God and how we are called to manage are human disappointments. Indeed, GOs is at work in us, and in all things (each situation) to bring forth HIs purpose and His will. If we willl only hang on for the ride, and view these situations as opportunities to demonstrate our trust and believe in Him. How God (Abba) loves to hear us say, “I trust you Father.”
I love you, DaNetta. Great encouragement! Thank you.
Romans 8:28 definitely one of my life lines. Don’t think I would of done to well with out it when my husband left me and that was a huge disappointment. But God is faithful to His word. I have peace and joy because of Him. thanks for sharing.
