9 bags and a box

9 bags and a box

When my Grandmother passed away recently, my mother and I went through her things from the nursing home.  They amounted to 9 bags and a box.  Simply:  9 bags and a box.  This does not seem like much to show for 102 years.

I am reminded that our lives amount to much more than what we possess.  The reason we matter is because of whose we are and not what we have.  Jesus gave everything for us.

Things don’t last.  People do.  The stories I heard about my grandmother were about her impact on people:  being nice, smart, helpful, polite, having a green thumb(giving away great plants) and loving to be outside.  It is pretty good, I guess, when all of your friends are dead– that someone is still speaking good things about you.

The Bible clearly tells us that Life is about  more than food and clothing.

I imagine my grandmother is worshipping now at the foot of the cross and not caring at all about the 9 bags and a box.  I remember a song which said, “…and when my life is through, I’ll bow and worship you, at the foot of the cross.”

When it is all said and done, what matters is not things like the 9 bags and a box.  It is what you have done with Christ and people while on earth.

Blessings,

Thora
