Change My Heart O God…

Change My Heart O God…

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. –Isaiah 64:8

In college, I took a pottery class as an elective. Wow! I found out how changeable clay is.  Very easily, it gets all smooshed together and in a crumpled mess.

One week at our church’s worship service, we sang a song I hadn’t heard since our early days in the Vineyard.

It goes like this: “Change my heart, O God, make it ever new. Change my heart, O God, may I be like You. You are the potter. I am the clay. Mold me and make me, this is what I pray.”

I couldn’t help but be reminded of the class I had taken. It is so easy to get “messed up” in a crumpled mess. I am in great need of God to mold me and keep molding me into what He wants. His design…not mine.

The pottery never looks as good until after it has spent time in the kiln. In the heat! ( In the oven of life, where we need God to shape us and not simply to be molded by the world around us.)

So now I say, Change my heart, Lord. Search it and find any offensive way in me. Make me more into Your likeness. You are my Creator and my Maker. Mold me, change me, and continually make me more like you. (Just try not to make the fire too hot I pray.)

Blessings,

Thora

  1. And after it’s gone through the fire, the shape doesn’t change so easily. Great illustration! And, BTW, I love that old song.
