Ephesians 3:20 – Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than ALL we ask or imagine, according to his power that works within us.
God found my lost and broken soul when I was in college, and that’s when I began my journey with Him. That journey has seen highs and lows, but God has always been faithful. Early on, God impressed on me the importance of shedding my old life. I knew that I could not serve God and continue doing the same old things. I listened to music and read books that were counter to Christ. It became obvious that not only did I need to get rid of this stuff, but I also had to destroy it. So, in obedience I did. During this time, I was planning to move to another state and God very clearly told me not to move. I fought it, but again, I heard “You’re not moving.” In obedience I laid down my plan and stayed. A couple of years later, he asked me to move 70 miles away to Los Angeles to live with a friend and begin attending a new church. Seven months after I moved, that friend moved to New York. I felt abandoned. God reminded me that He was the one who placed me there and assured me I was in the right place. Then came the relationship that I so wanted to work. I really cared for this guy, but I also knew it was not God’s will. Although it took some time, I was finally able to be obedient in walking away. Once I did, I met my amazing husband, Eddie. I still marvel after almost 20 years how perfect a match we are.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says, “if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord.”
Throughout my life, I can point to times where God has asked me to lay down my thoughts, my desires, my dreams and my wants. When I am obedient to Him, He shows up and gives me more than I could ever dream. I have learned to have radical faith through obedience to Him. I know that when God asks me to do something, it’s going to benefit me and advance His purpose.
Where do you want to see your faith increased today? Have you asked God what areas of your life you have not laid down so that you can receive what He’s trying to give you? How about that toxic friendship you can’t give up? Are you in a relationship you know God is asking you to leave? Do you have a hobby that distracts you from God? Lay it down at the cross and ask Jesus to give you the courage to obey His request. He has something far better in store. You are exchanging your metal trinket for God’s golden treasure, and you will be building your faith that God is the giver of good gifts and desires to provide all that you need.
Bless you!!
