My favorite author, Henri Nouwen, said this, “The real enemies of our life are the ‘oughts’ and the ‘ifs.’ They pull us backward into the unalterable past and forward into the unpredictable future. But real life takes place in the here and now.”
Here and now is where we need to live. Too often I look back at what I should have said or done after I’ve been with another person and then I mentally berate myself. It doesn’t help me. I can worry about the future too much. That also isn’t helpful.
Matthew 6:34 says, ““Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
In other words, Live Now! Live in today!
Nouwen also said this, “God is a God of the present. God is always in the moment, be that moment hard or easy, joyful and painful.” So, let’s all try to enjoy the now. or if “now” is a time of grieving, let’s grieve with God in the now. Let’s make a choice ahead of time to live in the present. Let’s choose to live all of our moments with our Heavenly Father.
