Wow, what a time! One would think with so much to pray for and about, that I would have an endless prayer and know exactly what to say! Nope, at a loss. There is too much. When I sit to pray, I get nothing and everything all at once. Then, throughout the day, I find myself praying as though I walked in on myself.
Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
There is nothing else I can imagine that is needed more than God Himself. We need Jesus; just Jesus. If we ever wondered how broken a world could be, I think we are getting some visuals lately. He told us to come to Him. In Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Let us pray that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, and even though we may not know how to get out the ‘what’ that is needed in this time, we know ‘Who’ is needed. Without fear, praise the Lord for He knows. Do not worry what to pray about, He knows, and His Spirit is within you. Sit with Him. I read often in the scriptures where it is told to someone to go and do or say something, and then, I feel as though I am re-reading the same scripture because it will repeat itself, but I am not. It is then that the person, whether it is Moses telling Aaron or the disciples, is doing what Jesus told them to do. It is not enough to just hear the Word. The best way to know what to do is through His Word, and being with Him. Praying is an action, and “Help” is a prayer. Remember where our battle is:
Ephesians 6:12
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
What to do about all that is going on? I think we ought to pray together as one for His Will to be done. What we need is in His Word; it was true then and it is now. Let’s send our prayers out as arrows and let the Lord Himself direct them. I am currently in a study called how to pray, a simple guide for normal people by Pete Greig (yes, all in lower case). He writes in his book how the author (Anne Lamott) believes there are basically 3 types of prayers: Help, Thanks, and Wow. I see it in opposite order, but either way, God can work with these, after all He made man from dust. Let’s do this and let’s remember that His Word is true throughout all time. Just as Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy 6:5 in Matthew 22:36-40 when he answered the Pharisees.
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
The message is still the same today.
