Right now, our world feels pretty crazy. It seems every day I read an article that says the exact opposite of what I read the day before. We have an invisible virus enemy.
In the Old Testament, when Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, was faced with the threat of battle from surrounding nations, he made an important decision as a leader. He asked the people to pray and fast, and in 2 Chronicles 20:12 he says, “… “For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
When Jehoshaphat didn’t know what to do, he sought the Lord and kept his eyes on Him. That is a good lesson for us.
What are some things we can do during this current time to help us keep our eyes on the Lord?
Set our hearts to seek the Lord amid so many loud voices:
- Set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes and sit in silence. Ask God if He has anything to say to you.
- Choose a verse to contemplate for an entire day.
Choose to Remember God’s power and promises:
- Search the Scriptures for God’s timeless promises.
- Write down a few promises from God and place them somewhere you will see them in your home.
- Spend some time naming aloud who God is.
- Journal about things you are grateful God has done in your life.
Keep your eyes on the Lord and Actively Wait for the Lord.
Jehoshaphat encouraged the people to believe, to give thanks, and to praise the Lord. What are some ways that you can wait for and focus on the Lord?
Thoughts:
- As you read the news or watch shows, ask the Lord what He thinks about those things.
- Sit in the presence of the Lord simply waiting.
- Ask someone to pray with you and listen to what the Holy Spirit may be saying.
- Pay attention to how God is working in and around you.
Believe, give thanks, and praise the Lord.
How do you worship the Lord during times of uncertainty?
Possibilities:
- Read a book or talk to people that will boost your faith.
- Create a list of 5 things that you are thankful for each day.
- Choose to worship God even though things are not as they used to be.
I often do not know what to do, and I have loved this verse in 2 Chronicles 20:12. Join me when you don’t know what to do and keep your eyes on the Lord.

Excellent Thora. Wise words to “set our hearts to seek the Lord amid so many loud voices”. It never fails when I start the day without seeking Him, usually the rest of the day is chaotic and seems like a waste because I’ve allowed the loud voices to have place rather than my Lord’s calm & quiet voice. Thank you.
