Peace On Earth

I saw a Christmas card offering blessings of peace to the whole world. It was lovely. All Christmas sentiments are. It’s wonderful to desire peace, joy, and hope in this season and always.

But when I read the news, I don’t see peace in the world. When I read social media, I don’t see peace among a lot of us personally.

Maybe in your own family, peace seems out of reach right now.

Why does peace seem like more of a fantasy than reality? Is “peace on Earth” possible as we head into a new decade?

If our hearts know Jesus, then peace is possible for us. Instead of putting our focus on the whole world, why don’t we examine our own hearts first?

Are you harboring anger, guilt, or resentment? Are you lying to someone? Are you withholding forgiveness from someone who wronged you? Have you closed off your heart to God’s teaching and leading, figuring you’ve got it under control?

These things bring chaos and unrest to our lives, whether we believe it or not. There’s that gentle tug on our heartstrings that tell us, something’s not quite right.

In prayer, ask God to show you where you have let chaos reign in your hearts instead of peace.

I’ve had this lyric stuck in my head pretty much this whole season. “Let there be peace on earth, and let it start with me.”

If I’m honest with myself, I often feel like I work tirelessly to be a peacemaker among my family, friends, and co-workers, but fail to look honestly at what is happening in my own heart.

The prospect is scary…but it’s so rewarding when we do sit down with God and let Him show us His Peace.

Merry Christmas! Wishing you peace today and always. God bless.
