The morning was busy, so my walk was pushed back becoming a middle of the afternoon walk in the Arizona heat. While following the trail my eyes and mind were taking in how desperately thirsty the landscape was. As I prayed the Lord was showing me how thirsty my soul was for a move of the Holy Spirit.
According to health experts, most people confuse thirst and hunger, often mistaking the former for the latter. Clinical studies have shown that 37% of people mistake hunger for thirst because thirst signals can be weak.
Have you ever worked so hard that your afraid to sit down and stop? We know that we are physically exhausted but most of us don’t know that we are spiritually “thirsty “ until we sit down and wait, contemplate or reflect. The Holy Spirit is always working and grace is always available to draw us closer and refresh us.
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:1-5
In a day when the bus word is “self care”, women often are running here and there thinking they’re hungry when in fact their soul is thirsty! Here’s a thought, take a few minutes each day to be refreshed and quench your soul-thirst with the Holy Spirit. To sit before the lord and drink in His presence. We will find soul hydration is just as important as physical!!
