A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. –John 13:34
Dr. Seuss’ famous Grinch, who lived just above Whoville, hated Christmas and everything else about the merry Whos (It was even reported that his heart was two sizes too small.)
However, by the end of the story, something happens. After working to ruin Christmas, the Grinch saw the Whos celebrating and loving each other even though they had nothing. “And what happened then…? Well…in Whoville they say, that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day!”
The Grinch’s heart grew because he saw and experienced love in action. He got a taste of it and he wanted what he saw. Like so many Americans, He had never experienced the kind of unselfish love which was not based on getting something.
Don’t you love it when those who do not know Christ, see “love in action” in the lives of Christians they know. (like the Thanksgiving outreach, or Angel Tree, or those going to minister in Honduras or India or Mexico?)
The Christmas season is a great time to put love into action.
Jesus commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves.
It is a revolutionary, sacrificial love that is willing to put others’ needs ahead of personal needs
When we love like Jesus, others will be able to catch a glimpse of Jesus.
When we love like this, not only our own hearts will continue to grow, but other people (whose hearts are perhaps two sizes too small) might respond to God as they see love played out in ways they have never seen before.
Can you think of a great way to show love for others this season?
Blessings,
Thora
This is good – just as in the story, we can rejoice anyway, give thanks anyway, appreciate/hope/worship anyway…regardless of what we have or don’t have, it equates to love in action, not only at Christmas but always! ♡
I love, love, love this post! Thank you Thora for reminding us that by loving people like Jesus loves us, we can make a difference in their lives… and the heart’s sizes!
