Blind Spots

Blind Spots

Fools think they need no advice, but the wise listen to others. –Proverbs 12:15 (NLT)

Some time ago, as I was driving down the road when a fellow driver pulled up next to me and motioned for me to roll down my window. My thoughts raced. I didn’t think I had cut her off. What had I done? With a bit of fear, I rolled down my window. The driver informed me that my dress (a long one) was hanging out of the door dragging the ground.

As I drove away, I was glad that person made the effort to tell me. I needed someone with a different viewpoint and angle to see what I couldn’t…and hopefully save my dress… I would have continued to drive unaware of any problem and the dress would have continued to drag the ground.

We all have blind spots in our lives don’t we? Just like the driver who helped me, the Lord uses other people in our lives to give us wisdom and correction. For me personally, it can be easy to get so caught up in things surrounding me and my family, that I am blind to all else.

This can be a kind of spiritual blindness. Maybe I can’t see how my actions are affecting others. Or, I may be blind to see how the Lord wants me to change or grow. What a blessing that the Lord puts others ahead of us, behind us, and with us each step of the way.

With a different angle and viewpoint, others are able to sharpen us and help us grow. They notice things we simply cannot. (tone of voice, avoidance, fear, too much worry, etc.)

Sometimes it can be hard to listen to the advice others offer—it can be scary to roll down the window of our self -protection and invite advice from others. However, It is so important to listen carefully to the advice and wisdom of godly people God has placed in our lives. The insight of others will help us make our way wisely through life’s journey.

May we all drive down the road of life with fewer dresses hanging out the door.

Blessings,

  1. Iron sharpens iron right! It’s hard to hear about
things I can’t see but yet so important to grow!
