Thirsty for more!
My desire is that as I grow older, I also grow increasingly desirous for more of God’s presence… like on a hot, dry summer’s day when you get a sip of cold fresh water, and it is just the right temperature.
You want to drink and drink, and you hardly seem get enough! (Seriously, if I am outside in Phoenix in the summer, besides drinking it, I could just pour it all over myself and I would probably be happy!)
Psalm 42 begins,
1 As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
And Psalm 42 ends…
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
When I’m actually physically parched, water is the only thing that satisfies.
Too many times we try to make ourselves feel better with something that doesn’t really satisfy: a new pair of shoes, a new make-up, a new restaurant, a new movie, a new friend.
The only thing that truly satisfies a thirsty soul, is being watered by God! Anything else is a poor imitation.
Blessings,
Thora
What a great reminder that nothing else can satisfy us! I seem to forget that stuff or food just isn’t going to quench my thirst. When cleaning out my closet I seem to find things that I really didn’t need but at the time I bought them they were promising to satisfy me…and they didn’t. Thanks!
“The only thing that truly satisfies a thirsty soul, is being watered by God! Anything else is a poor imitation.”
Love it, Thora!
Just living in Phx helps understand the real meaning of thirst. The climate is similar to a lot of places in Israel. Yes to thirsting for God.
