I recently purchased a beautiful jeweled necklace for a special occasion. When it arrived and I put it on I felt amazing! It was gorgeous. Proverbs 3:22 says that God’s word is like an ornament that graces our neck! Chapter 3 of Proverbs is an amazing chapter about life, wisdom, trust and peace. This portion of scripture is a how-to live life manual. When fear or sudden disaster comes remembering God is on our side; He has laid the foundations of the earth; therefore I can rest in Jesus trusting Him with all my heart knowing God will make my paths straight. Proverbs 3:21 tells us to not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; which is God’s eternal word that is the catalyst for changing our lives. I have been lax in memorization of scripture of late and I have come to see how necessary it is in regards to peace in my life. Proverbs 3:22 continues on with the promise that if we do verse 21 God’s word will be life to us and like an ornament to grace our neck. Who doesn’t love a beautiful jeweled necklace!!
How amazing it is to realize God’s peace for our soul is a continuous gift to us. His peace can rule in our hearts (Col. 3:15), His peace can pass all our understanding (Phil. 4:7) and His peace has been given to us in Christ (John 14:27). God’s peace has been likened to the manna that the Israelites gathered daily while they wondered in the wilderness. Like manna, we need to daily gather in prayer God’s continuous gift of peace in our lives. We must daily depend upon God for true, lasting and real peace as we hide God’s word in heart (Ps. 119:11).
I long for that kind of peace in my life continuously. I don’t want to live in denial, blame or pretending problems don’t exist. I don’t want to be consumed with worry or fear, judgment or comparison. I want true peace and confidently live with the knowledge that God’s peace is with me always. I want to wear that ornament of God’s peace to grace my neck for the world to see.
From my heart,
DaNetta Fernandez
Praying for God’s peace like a necklace of grace…with me always. May it be!
This is beautiful DaNetta – Thank you for sharing:-)
From a fellow jewelry lover, this analogy truly speaks to my heart. I want to “wear” God’s peace too!!!
I love that scripture in Proverbs. I also love what you said about God’s peace in reference to manna. Your words brought peace to my heart. Thank you.
Such a great comparison and its so true, feeling Gods peace is so precious.
Our God is so amazing. I just love him like crazy.
