Have you noticed that in our culture, it seems like almost everyone is easily offended? The slightest comment, or a single word that people hear while they are not paying attention or listening to the context and fireworks go off! Emotions get hot and people get defensive. Often times, relationships are damaged.
Following Jesus means living in a way that is counter intuitive to natural human responses. We are to have self-control and do what we can to keep the peace and preserve the relationship. Many times, the biggest arguments are a result of a misunderstanding. I know that I’ve been on both ends of that – either the one who said something that was misunderstood or I am the one who misunderstood what someone said.
In Romans 12:18, Paul writes, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
The way I am trying to do this is by asking God to help me think before I speak and to give others grace in conversations. What a difference it makes!
What are some things that have helped you in daily life to live at peace?
Blessings to you and have a peaceful week!

Great blog! I’ve noticed how easily offended people are, even Christians, which makes me think that John Bevere’s book, The Bait of Satan: Living Free From the Deadly Trap of Offense, should be required reading for everyone everywhere. And I myself should re-read it!
Thora gave a message on “the Bait of Offense”. It’s been about four years since that message, but I went straight to buy the cd (rare for me to do). Loved that impactful n oh-so-helpful message n still applying it to my life!!! Don’t take the “Bait” of the enemy!!
I need to re-read, “The Bait of Satan.” It was a great book! So helpful.
A phrase I’ve found helpful in dealing with people is,
“It’s not about you.” (I think this in my mind. I don’t say it out loud when something seems offensive.)
So often, we take things personally and it is about that person…not us.
