What’s in a Name?

My favorite song right now is Break Every Chain, written by Will Reagan. There’s something comforting in the words of the song that says, there is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.

As I find myself navigating my way through so many recent life changes, my secret to surviving these changes is singing this song over and over and over again until it penetrates my soul, breaking off my chains of worry, fear and anxiety accompanying these many changes. Simply saying the name of Jesus is like a spiritual salve for my frayed emotions.

Many years ago the name of Jesus was the subject of very detailed dream that God gave me reminding me of just that … there is power in the name of Jesus. In my dream I could see people speaking the name of Jesus while trials of every kind bombarded them. As they spoke the name of Jesus out loud, the name literally exploded from their mouths like a fireball shot from a cannon demolishing their cancer, diabetes, obesity, incest, molestation, addictions and difficulties of every kind. God repeatedly assured me in my dream that the name of Jesus is stronger than any disease, any trial or any fear I might come up against if I would only remember to brandish that name like the mighty weapon that it is.

The dream was so vivid and was to become the first of several dreams that God gave me that I later used as the foundation for my second book entitled, The Name, which I published five years ago. While the book is a fictional account of a family who face many trials and challenges in their lives, the message is pure fact: the Name of Jesus is powerful and can help you overcome any trial if you would only remember to call on His name.

What challenges are you facing right now? Life has shown us that there are no shortages of complications. Divorce, sickness, death of a loved one, relationship difficulties, financial hardships … the list is endless.

The name of Jesus cannot instantly erase all of your trials as if they never existed, BUT the name of Jesus CAN bring you peace and comfort and can break the chains of fear, worry and anxiety if you believe that Jesus is Lord. There is power in The Name of Jesus … why wouldn’t you want to tap into this life-saving power?

The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 (NLT)
