Waiting and Serving

With Easter coming in a few weeks, I have been thinking about Christ’s crucifixion, his resurrection and ascension into heaven.

It also leads me to think about Christ’s return.  What a glorious day that will be!  About that event, Jesus said, “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.  And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”  Matthew 24:30-31.

Jesus also told his disciples, “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”  Matthew 24:36.  This means He will come at a time that is unexpected.

Which leads me to the most important point we should all focus on – how are we to spend our lives waiting for His triumphant return?

The parable Jesus told to show us how to be faithful to him is in Matthew 24:45.  “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?  It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.  I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.”

As a faithful servant of Jesus, we are to live like we are expecting his return at any time, love and care for His people.  He promised faithful servants great privilege in His future kingdom.

Am I doing what he asks?  Am I sharing the gospel at every opportunity with those I know who are lost?  Am I praying daily for a servant’s heart and demonstrating it in action?  Am I so distracted in the things of this world and daily life that I miss opportunities to further the Kingdom of God?  Am I acting like the servant who expects his master to be gone a long time, or am I prepared and waiting expectantly, excited for the return of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?

Lots to reflect on…and I pray that we, the women of VCNP, are choosing daily to be the faithful and wise servants of Jesus.
