I’ve been hearing the same Bible verses and message in many different ways this week. I’ve heard it at church, in my Bible study on Tuesday mornings and read it in a Christian magazine today. I even just happened to look at the bottom of the page of the Bible my husband left open and the footnote was about the same exact thing! Does this ever happen to you?
When it happens to me, I realize God is really trying to drive a point home and speaking to me personally.
The verses that keep coming up are Matthew 12:34 “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks,” and Matthew 15:18 “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’”
So – we have a heart problem. My heart is sick. That’s where the sin nature starts and brings up all of the yucky stuff that goes into my brain and sometimes, unfortunately, out of my mouth. A lady from my Bible study put it this way, “We need a heart surgeon for our tongue!”
As I have examined my life recently and gone over the words that have come out of my mouth the last couple of days, I remembered some that I wished I hadn’t said. So I confessed to Jesus and asked him to help me.
That’s our heart solution – take it to our Savior! I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit that convicts me of the sin and brings my heart problem to my attention so I can go to the only source who can fix it.
These are two Bible verses for the heart solution: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 and “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10.
Thank you, Lord, for providing the heart solution!
Blessings to you,
Melissa
I love it when God speaks clearly!!
What an convicting yet encouraging post! Jesus, be the heart surgeon for my tongue! I love it.
Thanks so much for reminding us of the solution!!! I have actually been hearing the same verse when my tone is curt with my kids, or I don’t quite get the exact message across. 🙂
