John Wimber, the late leader of the Vineyard movement used to say, “Never trust a leader without a limp.”
Here is what I think that means.
Hardship produces humility. Those who have been broken or humbled and who know what Jesus did for them, have a “limp.” They have been through some tough times in life.
Think about it. When you want someone to minister to you or to lead, you don’t want a self-reliant person who is focused on themselves…you want someone who knows Jesus! If someone hasn’t had to learn to let Jesus lead, that is an issue. There is a depth and quality of life that comes with enduring hardship.
Here is to having a few limps.
