I’ve been listening to a lecture series by the late theologian, R.C. Sproul, called The Holiness of God.
In the series, Sproul discusses the quality of holiness as it relates to the character of God.
As a Christian for many years, I’ve come to know God as good, merciful, and sovereign.
He is all of those things and more but as Sproul points out He is holy, first and foremost.
Do you see Him as holy? I admit that it’s not one of the first characteristics I think of when I think of God.
But it should be.
In Matthew 6:9, Jesus commands us to pray, “…Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed (meaning made holy) be Your name.” (NASB)
Before any request is uttered in prayer, we are to call Him holy. Do you do that?
In Isaiah 6:3, angels called out “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” (NASB)
And again in Revelation 4:8, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.” (NASB)
When someone takes the Lord’s name in vain, are we acknowledging His holiness?
Do you kneel before God in awe and reverence?
These have been convicting and humbling messages for me.
God is not just some genie-like figure who grants us our wishes brought forth in prayer. He’s not just another resource to go to after technology, our government, and our self-reliance fails us.
Our God is holy, holy, holy.
This week, I challenge you to sit without distractions and meditate on how big and how holy our God is.
Holy holy holy is our Father!!
