Around Mother’s Day, I tend to reflect when the kids were younger, and, this year, I had a giggle remembering when my youngest was 2 years old. He had decided that he was going to hold his own hand while crossing the road. I used to say, “Now, hold my hand so we can cross the street”. No problem, till he became comfortable with the routine and confident in crossing the street. I am not sure what all went on in his mind. One day, he raised his right arm and with his left hand clasped his right hand. Just like that, I was out of the loop. Of course there was no way he was crossing on his own, so I gently pinched a portion of his shirt between his neck and shoulder area. He held his hand and I made sure he was safe.
I do that sometimes; hold my own hand. I get really good (in my mind) with a task or confident in how to handle situations, and, without waiting for God, I walk off like a 2 year old imitating a routine. Of course, He is there, but you get the idea.
I am so thankful I am His. I praise Him, because He is Adonai, Lord of Hosts, Healer, Almighty God, Abba Father. Tenderly caring for us, watching, teaching, guiding…. and the depth in which He fills us with His Spirit, so that we may fellowship with Him, we belong to Him for eternity. There is so much to be thankful for. Jesus is more than enough.
Jesus spoke to the Pharisees of the day and said that they were more attached to their rituals than loving God (Mark 7: 6-8). Sometimes, we get in routines; there is nothing wrong with that, He made us to develop mastery in the sphere of influence He has us in, but never without Him. So, as I reminisce, I relinquish my hand for the Lord to take me across the street, in the parking lot, up the hill, across the streams of living waters, anywhere and everywhere. I am thankful for the images He gives to remind us; to intimately remember…. Him! Hold my hand Lord!
John 10:27-30( ESV) – “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
1 Peter 5:6-7 – “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
May God richly bless you with awareness of Him,
~Ayse
When I’m in a difficult situation facing something or someone, I close my hand (like holding God’s hand, sometimes tight) and then take on the person or situation knowing it’s not me alone.
Such a cute story about your son. Thank you fo sharing and reminder that God is here holding our hand at all times.
