Christmas…Food…For the Soul

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again.” John 6:35

With Christmastime, usually comes lots of good food. Christmas candy, cookies, cakes, pies, and Christmas dinner are all part of the special times of Christmas celebrations.  I especially like my family’s baked garlic cheese grits.  I associate great food with Christmas. It is commonly noted that on average, people gain between five and ten pounds during the holiday season. Yikes!

Before we’re enjoying stuffing ourselves with Christmas food, it is a good time to do some thinking on our spiritual nourishment.

Christmas is a fabulous time to remember that Jesus is the “bread of life.” This is a powerful illustration of what Jesus is meant to be to our lives. He’s the source of life. He’s the food our souls need!

This Christmas, make sure you are feeding your soul a healthy diet of Jesus.

What can you do this Christmas season to make sure you are filling your soul with things that last?

Blessings,

Thora

  1. Great reminder. This has inspired me to make up little cards marked “spiritual nourishment” and put them in a basket with the food at our Christmas party. I will have to think of verses and quotes to put on them now!

  2. Reminds me of the “things Christians do” Brian frequently mentions—read the Bible every day. We eat 3 meals a day. God’s word is the food that feeds our spirit. It teaches us of and brings us closer to Jesus. Sometimes it is so good I really feel full and say YUM! “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.”
