This season of life for me is so busy. With four kids ranging from two to eight I find that I rarely am sitting.
Finding balance is hard. Regular scheduled maintenance for my sanity should be planned out, but it’s not.
Where can I find God in the minutiae of my toiling- when my down time is no where in sight- where is my peace?
I need to be reminded that God is with me. But what does that even mean?
It means I only have to speak a word or think a thought and the God who created the heaven and the earth, the God who parted the seas, is right there to comfort me, strengthen me, bolster my confidence, encourage me, and even just rest with me.
God is with me in the minutiae.
“The key to friendship with God… is not changing what you do but changing your attitude toward what you do” says Brother Lawrence in ‘Practicing the Presence of God’.
“…a very small, gentle voice has been speaking to me far beyond my noisy place. So: Be confident and trust in the Lord.” says Henry Nouwen in ‘The Road to Daybreak’.
God is always with us. We just have to take a breath long enough to tap in to hear. Like a tap in a maple tree, waiting for sap, I wait for God. I’m impatient at best but I’m learning to practice the presence of God in my minutiae.
I love what Brother Lawrence said. God bless you & your kids. Thank you for all the sharing of your time & energy to bless others!
“Like a tap in a maple tree, waiting for sap, I wait for God.” I love that! Our Tree of Life. Hang in there. Hug.
My Dearest Erica, I have so many things to say about this AWESOME message:
1) Can’t believe Lucy is 8!
2) Can’t believe you are still writing and serving despite having 4 little ones.
3) I’m so glad you haven’t stopped, because I love reading your posts and you bless many with your service.
4) I’m so happy you “get” what it means to remain connected to the Lord when our kids are little and we barely have time to brush our teeth. I really struggled with that back when mine were little! So I’m so glad our readers will get to hear this truth so beautifully put as you did here.
5) I love you!
Great job Erica. Thank you for reminding us whatever season we are in it is about our attitude and remembering he is always with us it’s practicing that presence … how is it the Lucy is 8 and Henry is 2! Martin and Greta somewhere there in the middle. You are an awesome mom and women of God!
