This election season stirred up much turmoil in my soul. The way the country has fought over who is “right” in the political world has left me feeling disappointed and fearful with leadership in our country. Most distressing to me have been the words and pictures that I have read by both family and friends that have promoted hatred. As a teacher it was very challenging to walk into my classroom that Wednesday following the election and be the light of God for those diverse high school students. I honestly didn’t want to go to work that day, and many teachers called in “sick”. And I know why because it was going to be tough. We have students and teachers who are very diverse, and I know the outcome affected them the most. I was fighting with God all the way to work that day. My internal dialogue was “God I can’t do this.” But God said back…. “I need you there today. I will equip you.” God needed me to reflect his love to the people he has placed in my path. I gave lots of hugs and continued to teach the words of truth found in the texts I teach my students. Every piece challenges us to be better towards our common man. If you have been like me and worried about the direction our country has taken, I have found hope in God’s truth. In Psalm 55 God calms a troubled heart with the words of David “But I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. God, who is enthroned forever, will hear them and afflict them—men who never change their ways and have no fear of God. My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant. His speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they drawn swords.” Psalm 55: 16-21. David recognizes the hatred that is in man’s heart. It is not a new thing. Men are the same from generation to generation. Evil resides in their hearts. But God came to rescue us from ourselves. And from those we fear. He ends this Psalm with this: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. But you, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of corruption; bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.” So I take hope in a God who rescues and saves. My new motto is “But as for me, I trust in you.” Ladies let’s live out this truth each and every day.
Be Blessed,

For Sure!
There is no other place to turn.
God is our only safe place!
Jessica, Thank you, I hear your broken heart in between your words. If there is Any consolation, may I suggest you quietly and slowly read 2 Timothy Chapters Two and three regarding how we are encouraged to live in the last days? God’s Word is true and will endure, and His Promises Can be counted on, as He Cannot lie.
Blessings to you and the children you mold in your teaching vocation,
