Great is His Faithfulness

I’ve had a difficult 2 weeks with my daughter.  She just started kindergarten, and I have seen several actions and attitudes that have been disappointing.  I really struggled with her choosing the wrong, when I know she has been taught the right.  It is easy to get mad, to come up with excuses for the behaviors, or to just feel that I am powerless for future choices.  I don’t know about you, but any time I start living in the future, I just create an emotional mess for myself which is why God says live in the present. Not in the past with the mistakes and regrets. Not in the future with the fears and the unknown. But in the present where life is happening.  After some prayer and meditation on scripture, God spoke to me about my daughter’s issues.  He helped me to remember that I am his child.  I too make poor choices sometimes daily. Sometimes they are big deals and sometimes they are not.  However, He sees them all. My past, my present, and my future.  And because of those poor choices, He knew he had to do something HUGE.  He had to cancel my debt.  The only way to do that was through the sacrifice of His son.    He gave me the biggest sacrifice because of His great love for me. This love is similar to the love I have for my daughter.  He also gave us this promise in Lamentations 3:22-23. “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” I love this concept that we are not overcome by our poor choices because His compassions never fail.  There are two amazing truths here. The first truth is that he has multiple ways to shower us with compassion. The word is plural.  I love that.  Secondly, His compassions never fail.  It doesn’t matter how many times I fail; His compassions cover me.  So much so that they are new every morning.  Today, I told my daughter this is a new day.  The mistakes are behind her, and to smile because God is faithful. She gets a new chance to glorify God with her actions.  We all mess up.  We just have to be reminded constantly of His faithfulness.  His love never waivers even when we do.  I pray you feel God’s compassions daily and that His faithfulness to you overwhelms your soul in a glorious way.

  1. What a profound and insightful reminder of God’s grace! The part about creating an emotional mess when I imagine what (bad) could happen in the future made me chuckle! So true!!!
